Sarah Perez never thought she would be teaching reiki. As an engineer, she struggled to make sense of energy work. Growing up in the mountains, she was connected to nature as a child. But as an adult with aspirations of having a good paying job and freedom to do whatever she wanted, she followed in her dad's footsteps and became an engineer. And though, she made good money, designed and built her own house and started growing her family, something still felt "off." She started spending a lot of time studying health books and became interested in why society was becoming more ill. Chronic disease seemed to be linked to diet and lifestyle. No stranger to fad diets, Sarah starting taking class after class on family health. Later, she became a Master Certified Health Coach. While still working as an engineer, raising kids and starting her business, the exhaustion began to set in.
She would work all day with no time for lunch, and when she would tuck the kids into bed, she couldn't even get through their prayers without passing out. She was so exhausted that she couldn't think clearly anymore. Her coworkers and friends would ask if she was alright, because she would sometimes slur her words and her complexion was ghost white. But she would push through, say, "I'm fine," and carry on. Secretly though, she felt like a zombie, stumbling through life trying to help others without taking care of herself. This was the way it was supposed to be, right? Being a mom meant being tired, right? Having a side hustle meant, less sleep until you make enough money to quit the day job, right?
Wrong!
Sarah got a rude awakening when she found a spot on her face. Scared it was cancer, she went to the dermatologist and had a biopsy. They told her the good news that it wasn't cancer. But the bad news is she tested positive for an autoimmune disease called Lupus. Fortunately, Sarah had the holistic health background, and she knew a doctor to help her.
The thoughts running through her head were, "How could I have a chronic illness when I eat right, exercise and meditate?" "Why am I broken when I work so hard to prevent this from happening?" Sarah was at a loss. And even thought she found a holistic doctor and was taking $1000 worth of supplements a month, she was still tired! Her doctor told her to "try reiki." Because Sarah was a curious person, she did it, but she didn't thing it was any different than meditation, so she never did another session. Her doctor told her again and again to try reiki and she came up with every excuse in the book she couldn't do it. "I've got to pick my kids up from school." "I don't have time for that." "I already get massages, so I don't have the money." "My husband would think it's too weird." "I can't do it if I'm Christian." She was not getting better, so she called the reiki master, and committed to consistent healing sessions.
After her 4th session, she felt a huge shift in her energy. Her mitochondria health (the batteries in the body's cells) had doubled and her bloodwork was getting better. She was able to play with her kids, enjoy her family more and her relationship with her husband was getting stronger. She had ideas in her business that helped her market herself more effectively and with more joy. And by her third month of consistent reiki treatments, she was inspired to heal herself daily. After she received her level 1 certification, she wanted to help heal her family. Sarah moved on to become a Certified Reiki Practitioner and was looking for ways to incorporate it into her health coaching practice.
There was a voice inside her that said to pivot her entire business. It was telling her to become a healer. Logically, this did not make sense. After being so public about becoming a health coach, why would she just drop the last three years of her business and be a reiki lady? However crazy it sounded at the time, she listened to that whisper. She put herself out there as a Reiki Healer and people loved it! She became a Reiki Master-Teacher three months later. Six months after that, she became double certified as a Karuna Ki Master. Reiki has healed her life, strengthened her connection with God, and revealed gifts that laid dormant for 30+ years (including crystal therapy and shamanic drumming.)
Now, she works with coaches, healers and service-based entrepreneurs who are ready to heal themselves so they can serve others. Sarah teaches and certifies women in reiki and crystal reiki, and holds monthly reiki circles for continued healing and support. She also writes paranormal romance novels, that focus on the development of psychic gifts, rather than the evils of vampires, witches and werewolves.
